The A38 Ship opened its doors on April 30, 2003. On Sunday, exactly 20 years later, we celebrated the incredible journey of this cultural sanctuary housed in the body of a Ukrainian stone carrier barge built in 1968.
The strength of the Ship lies in its mission and love. What Attila dreamed up and got Péter, Laca, and Mili to join is a unique venture that transcends itself.
It's a place that could be anywhere in the world.
I usually advise foreigners visiting Budapest to enjoy the city, see everything, but definitely visit the A38.
Even though I only managed it for two years, my heart still skips a beat when I get close. When I'm there, I feel like I've arrived. I experienced dense, often endless days, but I gained a lot.
At 26, awkwardly in a suit, I struggled to survive, to steer the Ship to stability.
It seemed impossible, but nothing was impossible with Attila, Péter, and 93 dedicated colleagues. The impossible was usually the only viable path.
I am grateful to have been there.
